Software Developer - PhD Raytracing & Point Cloud

SUMMARY
In the context of a national research project, we want to be able to simulate physical environments acquired using a LiDAR-based 3D scans, also known as point clouds, with raytracing technologies implemented in GPU. This PhD will be held in collaboration with French Mines ParisTech.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This PhD will focus his research on several issues:

  • re-illumination or re-coloring of the acquired data taken from a single point of view,
  • large 3D data handling in real-time to assign virtual materials and make new 3D renderings using a different lighting system
  • implement ways to perform ray casting in point cloud environment with real-time constraints, following the literature of this research domain

Your Main responsibilities will include:

  • Review of the literature pertaining to the research subject,
  • Developing GPU algorithm addressing the afore mentioned issues of this PhD
  • Propose innovative algorithms to tackle the technical constraints

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • You are a graduate from an Engineering School with majors in Optics or Physics such of from university and have a Masters degree with solid skills in mathematics and physics.
  • You have a first experience in GPU programming
  • You have basic knowledge or solid skills in:
- GPU Programming (e.g CUDA,...)
- 3D Rendering (Shaders, Open GL, DirectyX)
- Ray Tracing
- 3D Geometry Mathematics
- MonteCarlo techniques
- Photometry
- Global illumination
- Lidar
  • You have already used versioning software (Git, TFS...).
  • You know how to take initiatives, be proactive and you are eager to develop your skills in an innovative company. Your dynamism, curiosity, team spirit and interpersonal skills will be strong assets to succeed in your assignments.
  • As the position is embedded in an international scientific context, a good English level, as well as a scientific background, are necessary.
