Lead Solution Engineer EMEA - Sensors and Photonics, (m/f/d)

SUMMARY
The Solution Engineer (SE) is part EMEA Field Engineering and Services team and a globally respected thought leader who is respected by customers, peers and industry experts. The SE participates in hands-on engineering activities while fulfilling a mandate to define and lead execution of transformational initiatives in alignment with market and customer needs. The SE leverages a close working relationship with customers and the application engineering team to provide strategic insight for technical initiatives within ANSYS. The SE further leverages these relationships and deep technical expertise to ensure continuous delivery of the value delivered by pervasive simulation in the product development process. The SE is an excellent communicator on all levels and can convey advanced concepts to audiences at varying levels of technical sophistication. The SE engages customers and colleagues with empathy backed by self-confidence that is built on a foundation of solid technical expertise. This expertise derives from a desire to continuously improve and learn, while sharing knowledge across teams.
The Sensors and Photonics SE is an expert in two or more of the following areas:
  • Electromagnetic propagation and interaction of electromagnetic waves with materials.
  • Application of numerical techniques to quantitatively describe propagation of electromagnetic waves and interaction with materials at wavelengths extending from microwave to visible light.
  • Detection and perception in camera systems, including application of deep learning to image classification and impact of physical detection on perception.
  • Lidar detection, perception and signal processing.
  • Radar signal processing.
  • Ultrasonic propagation and interaction with materials.
  • Detection and signal processing algorithms for ultrasonic systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The SE leverages a deep knowledge of sensor operation and modeling to define, drive and execute strategic initiatives in coordination with customers, product development, marketing and sales organizations toward the goal of extending ANSYS market penetration and technical offerings.
  • The SE supports product management and the field engineering teams by providing business context for product requirements.
  • The SE supports the field engineering teams across domains by proactively disseminating information about product development and collecting feedback.
  • The SE leads by example.
  • The SE should be capable of supporting hands-on activities related to training, support and project execution.
  • The SE works with Engineering Team Leaders to build a strong community founded on trust, responsibility and an open exchange of ideas.
  • The SE supports team members as a mentor and teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS, preferred PhD related to applied numerical electromagnetics.
  • At least 3 years (PhD) or 8 years (MS) of relevant industrial experience or participation in applied research and development or product development.
  • Demonstrated domain expertise as documented through patents, publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentations at internationally recognized technical conferences.
  • Thorough understanding of the competitive landscape, market trends and customer needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers, development leaders and C-level executives 
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and coordination with personnel distributed across multiple global sites.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active ANSYS Employee with respective experiences and insights.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%
  • Fluent in English, plus at least one more European language, for example German, French, Italian.
