Application Engineer (Year in industry placement)

This role is only available to current undergraduates who are entitled to work in the UK and need to complete a placement as part of their degree.

SUMMARY
We are looking for a candidate with engineering or science background to join our Granta team for up to 12 months on a year in industry placement. The Application Engineering placement will appeal to engineering and science undergraduates with an interest in materials and marketing, who are keen to join a global company and combine their technical knowledge with the enthusiasm, energy, and ambition required for a market leading organisation.

You will be working closely with the rest of the Application Engineering team to help leading engineering enterprises manage and apply vital information about their engineering materials as they move from research project through qualification and on into their product development process. This will involve organisations from industry sectors such as: aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, defense, medical, personal electronics, wind energy and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Application Engineering team is responsible for understanding the technical requirements of our customers. These requirements cover all aspects of the lifecycle of materials data.
Your role will be to support the Application engineers engage with our customers during the discovery phase, to understand their position and identify the optimal process for them. You will help the team build and prove the technology.

What you will be doing:

  • Analysing, updating and improving existing demonstration case studies scripts and presentation material
  • Implementing processes and integrating various business systems to improve the Technical Pre-Sales engagement process
  • Maintaining and developing the Demonstration Virtual Environment with up-to-date releases of GRANTA MI software, tools and databases
  • Improving methods to capture knowledge of customer use-cases and requirements during the Technical Pre-Sales engagement process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will be currently studying for a degree in an engineering or science based subject and have:

  • Good knowledge of materials and processes: specifically, you have covered engineering materials as part of a general engineering course; ideally following a specialised materials course.
  • Some computing background with some knowledge of office automation software including Excel. Preferably some coding experience in MATLAB or PYTHON.
  • An organized approach, with good project management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
